Distorted (here and there) of Manipur

Survival of fittest, as once pointed out in Evolution theories, finds most appropriate in context of Manipur, in the best meaning of the terms. In Manipur, in efforts to survive, we are slowly forgetting that generations had lived, are living, and will live in years to come. Most people are living at the moment, which is a good sign in spiritual sense. Instead, in Manipur we live simply for--- I, ME, MYSELF, WEALTH, MORE WEALTH and POWER. In the process one has compromised his own existence to be able to live a life of dignity and respect. The fellow beings are no more seen as humans, but as ones who could be eliminated at any instance with a pull of trigger, grenades, bombs, house burning, so on and so forth. The glorious cultures, values, traditions, and sense of fraternity among the inhabitants are no more visible as we have become more vested in our interests and are being influenced by less-guided motivators. We have failed to take out time to look back in retrospect as well as introspect, and more importantly forecast of things to follow. We have become a short lived society which gets swayed like the sand in the beaches with each wave, or a coated gold that needs regular polishing. We have become like a automated watch which goes round and round, not feeling a pinch of the points that it hits. Externally we have managed to live, but internally we have died long back. Non-existence of peace of mind among the people has led to betray his own self belief and values, and has become perplexed souls that could be lured with 'Gandhi notes' at any given point of time. Even Old Monk has peace in it. I am not a pundit either.

The professional standards are well below the cut off mark too. The tendency to personalized professional life is at highest stake in the state. Every body working together as colleagues becomes one's ECHE, PABUNG, TAMO, and ETAOBI. Don't you think so???. Though respect for seniors, and more so CHAMCHAGIRI is more predominant in the state. even the many Morons (who are non performers in many cases) are more respected more than the less Moronic ones (performers) for the the simple truth--more money, more reach to higher ups. Even these lesser mortals cannot speak up against these so called More-onic  Mortals as LUMPHU is again a common fear factor. I did once and I was almost beaten in broad day light. LOL.Now I hear the same guy has become rich. Thanks to all the Centrally Sponsored Schemes in the state. Good I resigned myself earlier ;). I guess too much money makes the person blind, and every time I go back to Manipur I see these people getting richer and richer . How innocently I thought, love only made a person blind!!??. I was proved wrong. OH! I remember, whenever I brought notice to superiors they consoled saying 'NANG ANGANG OIRI TOURINE'. Kidding me!!. Damn! I complained for reprimanding the culprit but, in turn, they indirectly said 'LEARN THE TRICK'. I give them my middle 'Un ringed finger'. Hilarious, is is not??.

Most of us there lack the passion, and the zeal towards our own works. Rather, they are seen as compulsorily imposed ways of life. Come late and go early. YOU DON'T HAVE TO AGREE. RIGHT??. Work and fun are promoted in most places across the globe but we have limited these understanding to simply-- ANTINGBA/ANGABA, YEN MAPHEI, OKSHA, post 4: 00 P.M. You want to learn the office tricks then association with these gangs is must. These could be included in service rules as important parameters for performance appraisal. HA HA. Salary is never regular, too, but we all survive despite that. It's ingrained and inborn to us .

Comes the jobs recruitment and we race to get the best deal with bureaucrats and politicians. The higher the bid higher is your chance of selection. Everybody wants government jobs for various reasons, including learning the tricks given a chance (pun intended) besides obvious security it provides. The definition of success boils down to one securing a government job (BABUDOM). You will get all the respect if you are one. This has become an important criteria these days even for some relationships to grow. LMAO.

Comes the darkness and you see all these so called COMMANDOS (Sorry ARNOLD). You are lucky if you are not stopped for frisking (not that one has anything in hiding). All they care about in their life is their BOSS (who most needs some immense sensitization through psycho-social methods). Some are gentle enough to ask for your identity and let you go; while some will out-rightly asked you 'WHICH GROUP YOU BELONG TO'. My goodness. You are molested, not physically but mentally. Can I reply a word or two??. Obviously not. I may be beaten to black and blue or the next day newspaper may read 'SHOT IN ENCOUNTER WITH 3 LIVE ROUND'. Tell me something new. But this is a sure thing (they say) if you carry money. So I only carry ATM cards ;-). Most of these guys are economic slaves, as most of them have taken loans from people to join the service, and any money obtained through any means is blessing in disguise for many of them. Do i support shooting of any kind???. Absolutely a BIG NO. I don't deny the good work done by them, either. Few take away messages--'Modernization of police system should not be aimed at enhancing the infrastructure and equipment but also changing the mentality of the people serving in it. Making them more disciplined through more life skills training, leadership workshops, communication skills, anger management, stress therapy, and most important the BOSESS being a VISIONARY. The barrel of the gun approach worked during British Raj but remember the century we live in'.

Comes these so called Naharols (militants, insurgents, etc). What are they actually??. They are like cancerous cells and many fragments keep emerging. They act as GODMEN sometimes, but many time as CONMEN. They want all the modern luxuries but still stuck with aged old thinking. How Contrasting??. It's time they conduct a survey through questionnaires  among the people and take stock of where they stand. PERISH or JOIN MAINSTREAM??. Give me a questionnaire too. My verdict. PLEASE PERISH. Some of my professional experience in Manipur was worst nightmare.

Nepotism. Wait let's ask Ibobi and gang, and many other bureaucrats serving as well as retired. Even the just concluded election witnessed candidates being fielded in different constituencies to expand their own roots and wings. Someone rightly said 'Anything is possible'. True. Another classic example is Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC). It remained unmoved even after recent controversies, which involved it being moved to High Court. No sane person among the many petitioned did not utter a single  word nor ordered an investigation. Yeah! hands and gloves appear as one. Any member giving up his post on moral ground and as a sign of support to the fight by the petitioners would have ensured his name in History books, at least in Manipur. But then most of them are 'THUMAI THA' and cared only for their dear and near ones. Typical of I, ME, MYSELF character.

Election fever. Time for clown acts. Banters flies from one place to another. Most people may not have eaten lunches and dinners in the manner they eat during election time, than their usual ones. They say even medicines related to gastric problems go up. HAHA. Drugs and alcohols flows in oceans (they say). Guns become a way of life (they say). Gandhi notes (money) given at throw away values. BAPU, YOUR PICTURE SHOULD HAVE NOT THERE ON THE NOTE :(,. More promises  these people keep making, more claps from the voters. These promises are like the promises we make every new year and break the very next day. But do we have a choice or an alternative??. No one is worth casting a vote fro actually. All the candidates distribute money and many voters take money; while some do not. At the end even if we don't vote we end up voting to the one who buys votes ultimately. So is the person that you voted the right person?? ASK YOURSELF. Ain't we corrupt too? This trend is expected to go on for many years to come, unless and until some one with right conscience take plunge into politics and win votes by obvious reasons- merit, service to the community, vision for the state, sensitivity, charisma, leadership and others.

Hope peace prevails and we come out stronger.

Cheers!
